Sheffield Union Workhouse. Names of guardians comprising the board on the day of opening. Anno 1881 domini.

Alderman Richard Searle, chairman, Thos. Edwd. Barkworth and Stephen Bacon, vice chairmen. Jeremiah Robertshaw, Geo. Augustus Wood, Saml. Henry Burrows, John Wycliffe Wilson, Alfred Craven, Richard Bartholomew, John Wilson, Fretwell Hudson, Samuel Hoyland, Michael Hunter jun., Edward Rhodes, Willm. West Meggitt [and] George Carr.

The undermentioned guardians also served office during the erection

William Stacey, William Jarvis, William Fox, Thomas Peel, Edward Loxley, William Widdowson, Jabz Shipman, John Elliott, Alfred Sharman, Robert Sykes, William Barker, Joseph Turnell, George Revitt, Josh. Manners Fenton, John Delaney, George Hy. Hovey, Wright Wilson [and] Benjamin Black.
